Swanky New Year's Rehearsal Dinner Invitations

After completing Sarah's invitations in the fall, her mother Elizabeth asked me to do some for her son's rehearsal dinner, which was being held right after the new year in Washington D.C. She and the bride, Jessica, both wanted to do something modern, fun and seasonally festive, so we went with a ball-drop design, metallic silver ink, and hand-cut silver glitter envelope liners and invitation backings (luckily they only needed 30!).

Baby Girl Shower Invitations

Jamie and Robin recently welcomed baby Ruby (don't even get me started on the cuteness... oh my goodness), and I was excited to put together their baby shower invitations in the fall. We used soft pinks and grays on layered matte stocks to create something sweet, with a bit of whimsy.

Sarah + Shaun's New Jersey Farm Wedding Invitations

Sarah was the first bride to contact Salutations after seeing one of my invitations on Pinterest—which I found pretty exciting. As a bonus, she was an absolutely fantastic person to work with. I loved our collaboration. She and her fiance, Sean, were fleeing their busy lives in Manhattan for a gorgeously peaceful, quiet outdoor celebration at the Inn at Fernbrook Farms in nearby Princeton, New Jersey. We started with a save the date, printed with thermography, which added a tactile element and shine without the cost of something like letterpress or foil.

The invitations that had pointed Sarah to Salutations were Olivia's. She wanted a similar design, but more color and some variation in the graphic elements. I love the way these turned out... it was a good exercise in reminding me as a designer that small changes can make a big difference in the overall feel of a project. Even using charcoal as the main text color (instead of brown) dramatically altered the tone of the suite. We also incorporated more of the palette from that beautiful floral stock, specifically greens, golds and reds, added an accommodations card and used pretty rust-colored shimmer envelopes.

We also did programs for the ceremony, using this absolutely beautiful jade-colored matte stock as a layer between the front and back. They were simple and sweet, but a favorite of all the programs I've done.

Backyard Movie Night: Instant New Tradition

We wrapped up the summer with the first of what immediately became a new tradition... Backyard Movie Night. This was an absolute blast with so many of our friends, the very last weekend before the kiddos went back to school.

We had beautiful weather and kept things simple with just popcorn, candy, lemonade, and bottles of Faygo and water. I printed some white paper bags for the popcorn and put out little wax cups for the candy, for everyone to serve themselves. Everyone had a great time and we can't wait to do it again... my kids are already debating about what movie we'll show this year. :)

Gold Foil + Letterpress: Adam and Kendall's Colony Club Wedding

Gold foil. Letterpress. A blind emboss. And four layers of cardstock. Adam and Kendall were married at Saints Peter and Paul Jesuit Church, the oldest in all of Detroit, with a reception following at the iconic Colony Club. Kendall wanted to capture the glamour of the Colony Club in an invitation suite that would really bring a wow factor for her guests. To accomplish it we used a traditional, timeless design and elevated it with a combination of premium printing processes (3 on the invitation alone!) on cotton letterpress stock, using soft pink, chocolate brown, and pale gold cardstocks as stacked backing layers. Each corresponding card featured the same cotton stock printed with letterpress and gold foil, and the pale gold envelopes were perfectly offset with gold knot envelope liners. The whole package was tied up with personalized vellum tags and metallic raffia.
